Best way to autofit cells in Microsoft Excel (Video)
To autofit a cell in Excel, which means automatically adjusting the row height or column width to fit the content, here’s how you can do it:


Autofit a Column (Width)

Option 1: Using the Ribbon

  1. Select the column(s) you want to autofit (e.g., click on column letter A).

  2. Go to the Home tab.

  3. In the Cells group, click on Format.

  4. Choose AutoFit Column Width.

Option 2: Using a Double Click

  • Move your mouse to the right edge of the column header (e.g., between A and B).

  • When the cursor turns into a double arrow , double-click.


Autofit a Row (Height)

Option 1: Using the Ribbon

  1. Select the row(s) you want to autofit.

  2. Go to the Home tab.

  3. Click Format in the Cells group.

  4. Choose AutoFit Row Height.

Option 2: Using a Double Click

  • Move your mouse to the bottom edge of the row number.

  • When the cursor changes to a double arrow, double-click.


Autofit Multiple Rows/Columns at Once

  1. Select the entire sheet (click the box in the top-left corner between row 1 and column A), or select multiple rows/columns.

  2. Then use either method above.
